Q: What are the system requirements for Wizardry
8?
A: Our tentative system requirements are:
Windows 95 or 98, a Pentium 166, 32 MB of RAM, 4x CD drive, soundcard, and a
PCI video card with 1 MB RAM or more. These may change.
Q: Will Wizardry 8 support 3D
accelerators?
A: Yes. We plan to support standards such standards as
Direct3D, Open GL, 3Dfx, PowerVR, Rendition, Pyramid 3D and
Matrox.
Everyone is headed towards Dominus, a world on the cusp of the Cosmic Circle, birthplace of the Astral Dominae and home of the Cosmic Lords. Many paths will converge on Dominus, and many long-hidden secrets will be revealed.
Q: Do I have to play Wizardry 7 before I play
Wizardry 8?
A: No, not at all. In fact, there's a special beginning just for
those who haven't played the previous game. Our goal is to create a game that
you'll love even if you've never played Wizardry or a role-playing game
before.
Q: Can I create characters from fantasy races, such
as elves, dwarves, etc.?
A: Definitely. In fact, there are eleven different
races to choose from for each of your characters: humans, elves, dwarves,
gnomes, hobbits, faeries, lizardmen, dracons, rawulfs, felpurrs, and
mooks.
Q: Has character creation
changed?
A: We've revamped the whole process from top to
bottom. We wanted to make it more user friendly to new players, plus we
wanted to give experienced role-players more options and
control.
Here are a few of the changes:
Personality affects how your characters speak. No longer will your party stay stone-silent during your adventures. Instead, they'll comment on each other and the world around them. Whether it's the sarcastic asides of a sophisticated Lord or the ramblings of a gruff Lizardman with a box of rocks for a brain, the new personality types will bring a whole new dimension to the characters.
Jagged Alliance fans have some idea of how the new system works. The big difference, though, is that you can choose the Personality type for each character in Wizardry 8.
Q: Are there new character classes and
skills?
A: Yes. There is one completely new character class, the
Gadgeteer. There are several new skills. All character classes have been
tweaked to improve play balance, add new abilities, and generally make them
cooler.
Q: Can I import my characters from Crusaders of
the Dark Savant or Wizardry Gold?
A: Yes.
Q: Can I import my characters from Bane of the
Cosmic Forge?
A: Yes.
Q: A 3D engine? Does that mean Wizardry 8
will be an action game, like Quake II?
A: No. See the Combat section.
Q: Are the graphics in Wizardry 8 more like
those in Nemesis: The Wizardry Adventure or more like those in
Wizardry Gold?
A: Neither. Wizardry 8 uses a completely different
graphics engine.
Q: Where can I see a screenshot of Wizardry
8?
A: Check our screenshots page.
Q: Is there a full-screen
mode?
A: Yes.
Q: Will Wizardry 8 take full advantage of my 3D
graphics accelerator?
A: Yes. Wizardry 8 features the full range of 3D special
effects--it's the first RPG specifically designed for 3D accelerators. And we've
taken special care to make the effects part of the game, not just showy gimmicks.
We want you to think, "Wow, those etched glass windows look fantastic," not, "Oh
look, another translucency."
Of course, if you want something faster-paced, we have options for that as well.
Q: Phased, turn-based . . . what's the
difference?
A: In a nutshell, turn-based systems are "your characters
go, then my characters go." In a phased combat system, which characters move
when depends on a character's intitiative, speed, weapon, and other factors. If
you've played Wizardry 7, you're already familiar with phased
combat.
Q: In Wizardry 7, monsters popped up out of
nowhere. Is that how it works in Wizardry 8?
A: No. Creatures live and breathe in the 3D world now.
You can see and attack them in the distance in Wizardry 8. This has led to
several exciting new changes in the combat system.
Q: Like
what?
A: Alas, I cannot reveal them at this time. Let's just say
new dimensions have been added to combat.
We've found that the new 3D environment gave us a lot of new opportunites, so we're completely reworking the spells for Wizardry 8. We've add new spells, new effects, and fantastic spell graphics.
Q: I've never played an RPG before. Why
should I start with Wizardry 8?
A: One reason is that it's been designed from the get-go
with the new player in mind. We've gotten rid of the the obscure slang and
odd conventions that confuse those who don't have an advanced degree in RPGs,
so you don't have to struggle with the game. All you have to do is have
fun.
Q: Will Wizardry 8 have a multiplayer
feature?
A: We thought long and hard about it. In the end, we
decided a multiplayer feature didn't fit into the vision we had for the game.
That doesn't mean there won't be a multiplayer product someday, but it won't be
Wizardry 8.
Q: I've played a million RPGs, and I hear that
there's supposed to be about a million more new RPGs coming out soon. Why
should I get Wizardry 8?
A: Lots of reasons. Here's a
few:
