Opening Chests
There are 4 tools and multiple trap types. This is a guide as to use which tool on which piece of trap to give you the highest percentage chance to disarm it.

Some strategy tips:
Don't bother getting your lock picking or trap disarming skills above 60% or so. You should spend your point raising other skills.
Buy as many magic books and scrolls as you can, but try to keep them as long as you can. In the game when you gain a lever you get 100 exp points to distribute among all of your stats. Early in the game 1 exp point raises a stat by 1 point. Later in the game when you stats have reached say 90% it takes 5 exp points to raise your stat 1 point. If you save the magic books and scrolls which raise you either 5 or 10 points they are saving you between 25 and 50 exp point at higher levels. I suggest waiting to use them until your magic ability is 60% or better in each area. For optimum use wait until you have reached 80% plus.

Warp Without a Teleport Matrix
When you start, build your Nerve Center. Then walk to the very edge of your
boundry. The green teleport light should light up. When you get to the edge,
press backspace. This will warp you to an adamin where you can teleport for
free to anywhere on planet visitor.
Risk 2
Go Back One Turn
If you're playing against the computer and you get absolutely crushed on a turn, hit the menu button, quit the game, then go back into it, and it will continue the game from the beginning of your turn.

Cheat code activation
Copy your windows.fit file (in the directory you installed MechCommander in) and rename it to ixtlriimceourl with no extensions.
Finish the mission
Activate cheats, then in combat type: CTRL-ALT-W
Free Money
Activate cheats, then in the Logistics Phase type: poundofflesh - This cheat gives you 1000000 RP.
Invincibility
Activate cheats, then in combat type: osmium - Makes you invincible to enemy attacks.
Max gunnery skill for MechWarriors
Activate cheats, then in combat type: deadeye
No drop weight limit
Activate cheats, then in the Logistics Phase type:rockandrollpeople - Turns off the drop weight limit on the Battalion Transport.
Repair and Reload
Activate cheats, then in combat type: lorrie - Repairs your mechs and vehicles as well as gives back wasted ammo.
Reveal the map
Activate cheats, then in combat type: mineeyeshaveseentheglory
Salvage all mechs in a level
Activate cheats, then in the Logistics Phase type:glennrocksthehouse - Salvage every mech as long as you don't check your salvage because then all the mechs destroyed so far will be removed from the salvage box. You only need to type the code once through the whole game. It will work every level after you type it.
Show the framerate
Activate cheats, then in combat type: framegraph
Unlimited nuke strikes
Activate cheats, then in combat type: lordbunny. Hold B and left-click to use.
Enter the "Rosters" screen and select the "Create Custom Team" option. Then, enter one of the folowing locations and team names to activate the corresponding team that consists of members of the development staff.

Wanna get though locked doors and you have no key?
Simply stand as close to the door as you can and drop an F-LINK (that's the teleporter device) and then teleport, because of a bug you will be on the other side!

Michael Jordan, The Easy Way
Pick a player in superstar mode against Jordan. Set the game match to 11pts. At the controller setup screen, select Jordan as your player. Let the other player score 10 points against you, then switch the control back from Jordan to the other player. Now all you have to do is score 1 point on Jordan.

Footnote for the "penalty" Code
Enable this code while your team has the puck to stop the other team and start a powerplay. Repeatedly enter the code to start an extended powerplay.
Victory Scream
Press [Big Deke] after scoring a goal or winning a fight. The player on your team that scored or won the fight will scream loudly.
No Power in Arena and Players Glow
Go to create player and name a player Y2K as first name and Bug as last. Put him on the team you want to be. Then go to Playoffs and name the playoffs as NHL2K and all the games will be with no lights on and players will glow like fireflies.
Taunt Opponent
When you score a goal or win a fight hold Z (Big hit/deke). Then you will hear the taunt. There are many taunts, have fun!
Free Powerplay
When you get into a fight DON'T touch anything and wait for the CPU to kick your butt after that he'll get a 5 minute major and 9 times out of 10 a game misconduct. You will also get a penalty, but don't worry, it'll only be a 2 minute minor for roughing.

In the game press [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Shift]+C then type "help homeless" and then the homeless people all help the population.
